The center of Mining and Applied Geology is already operational although still in its initial stages of development. The vision to establish the center was envisaged when a Memorandum of Cooperation was deliberated upon and concluded on 26th October 2018 between our Machakos University and China’s Wuhan University of Technology.
The center is committed to undertaking practices that will fulfill the mission for the School of Engineering and Technology, courtesy the Dean. The mission emphasizes on provision of quality training, research activities, consultancy services and innovative skills to learners and stakeholders. It also captures provision of services that will enhance realization of industrial and socio-economic transformation of the community in the fast evolving technological environment.
The center will also embark on short appraisal programs in Mining and Mineral Processing, and Applied Geology. Development of the curricula for these short programs will focus on the needs of the industry, particularly needs of counties with respect to capacity building, small scale artisanal mining and safe operation of quarry activities in line with regulatory bodies. Furthermore, the center will inculcate the good brotherly behavior of collaborating with other centers of excellence in the School of Engineering and Technology, the industry, and research institutions nationally, for continued growth to higher level.
We look forward for positive contribution from the center of Mining and Applied Geology in acceleration of the growth of Machakos University in the interest of the vision and mission of the University.
