Machakos University in collaboration with Adrian Kenya Ltd, held a one-day workshop on Solar photovoltaic technology at the university. The training dubbed “Why Solar” focused on a deep dive into current solar industry trends.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Linkages), Prof. Peter Mwita, informed members that the university was pursuing efforts towards generation of solar energy to be transmitted to the national grid; which is a direct contribution to the BIG 4 agenda, as energy is key in the manufacturing sector. “The university’s strategic plan lays emphasis and grounds for the adoption and use of renewable energy which is now reflected in our Renewable Energy Policy” said Prof. Mwita. He stated that the workshop was a major synergy in building partnership towards the strengthening of the Centre for Renewable energy.

Mr. Felix Nzuki, Head of Business Development at Adrian Kenya gave a brief history of the company and congratulated the University for embracing solar energy which was way cheaper than electricity. He informed the members that Kenya was currently ranked 3rd in Africa in solar energy usage. He kicked off the training by introducing Eng. Peter Ndumia who shed some light on the components of the solar system.
