MksU Staff and Students set to Study in Latvia

Machakos University (MksU) Staff and Students are set to study, train, gain experience in Latvia. Riga Technical University (RTU) of Latvia, will provide the learning opportunities at various levels of study from Bachelors to Ph.D programmes to students, Academic and Non-Academic staff of Machakos University (MksU) under the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.

Successful candidates of the Erasmus+ programme will have to make an application in line with a Memorundum of Understanding signed between the Two Centres of Higher Learning. Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport. In addition to providing opportunities for participants to study, train, gain experience and volunteer abroad it offers grants as well as supporting teaching, research, networking and policy debate on EU topics.

Riga Technical University (RTU) of Latvia is a modern internationally recognized university, the only polytechnic university in Latvia as well as the largest university in the country. Speaking in Machakos during their Three (3) Days tour to the University (14th December, 2022 to 16th December,2022) Ms. Zane Purlaura, the Deputy Director in charge of International Cooperation & International Student Recruitment at RTU said that the learning opportunities are non-discriminatory and are open to persons of all ages, races and religion. Ms. Purlaura was accompanied by Ms Maija Lebedeva (Project manager/ERASMUS KA171 – RTU) and Dr. Mikelius Dzikevics (Leading researcher – Institute of Energy Systems and Environment, RTU).

During their visit in Machakos University, the Latvian University team was Hosted by the Division of Research, Innovation and Linkages, led by Prof. Stanley Makindi (Ag. Registrar – Reaseach, Innovation and Linkages, MksU) and Prof. Jones Agwata (Ag. Director – Reaserch, Innovation and Technology Transfer, MksU). The team also met Members of the Machakos University Management Board, Deans of Schools, Chairmen of Departments and representation of the student population.

The signing of the MoU saw MksU become the first University in the East African Region to tap into the Staff and Student mobilities programme offered by RTU and thus present its Staff and Student population with the opportunity to enrich their skills and extend their network territories.
