Machakos University became host to the first Luban Workshop in Kenya which was launched on Saturday, 14th December 2019. Speaking during the launch, the Vice-Chancellor of Machakos University, Prof. Lucy Irungu, said that the Luban Workshop, established with the support of the Tianjin City Vocational College, served as an opportunity for Kenyan students to partake in world-class and innovative cloud computing courses. She highlighted that the workshop will further promote interaction through world-class video conferencing facilities as well as stimulate original research in the field of ICT and related human engagement.
While commenting on the importance of the workshop, Hon. Joseph Mucheru, Cabinet Secretary of Ministry of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) said that the facility established will help enhance cooperation in digital space. He emphasized that Cloud Computing and information security, which is at the core of the Luban workshop, was critical and important for the country.
Mr. Zhao Xiyuan, Minister- counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, said that the initiative aimed at providing high-end professional and technical skills training to help college students meet requirements of the emerging global market. He hoped that the workshop would become a successful model of cooperation between the two countries’ schools and enterprises. ‘Luban Workshop” is the first and leading international well-known brand of vocational education in Tianjin. Since the first Luban workshop was established in Thailand in 2016, China has been cooperating with countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative” route to build a new stage for Sino-foreign vocational education cooperation.
