Building Sustainble Futures at Machakos University’s 6th International Conference

Machakos University hosted its 6th International Conference from 29th to 31st May, 2024 at the University Amphitheatre under the theme “Adaptive Responses to Global Challenges for Sustainable Socioeconomic Development”, which focused onthe need for flexible and effective strategies to address the major global issues we face, such as climate change, economic inequality, and resource depletion. It featured six sub-themes namely:

  • Climate Change, Environment, Food Security and Infrastructure Development.
  • Health, Tourism and Entrepreneurship
  • Innovation in Education and Knowledge Management
  • Energy solutions, Industrialization and Computing Technologies.
  • Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics.
  • Governance, Culture, Languages and Social Sciences.

The Conference was officially opened by Prof. Walter Oyawa, CEO/Director General of National Commission for Science, Technology & Innovation (NACOSTI). The keynote speaker during the ceremony was Prof. Raphael M. Munavu, Chairman of Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KotDA).

It emphasized on the importance of developing and implementing flexible and effective solutions to tackle worldwide problems in a way that promotes enduring economic and social growth while preserving the environment for future generations. It was attended by participants from various universities and institutions in Kenya, South Africa, Uganda and Eswatini (Swaziland).  A total of 117 abstracts were received.

The Conference was officially closed by Dr. Rose Ngugi, Executive Director of KIPPRA with Prof. Meoli Karshoda, CEO of KENET as the key note speaker for the closing ceremony.
